ABOUT MAPBIOMAS
MapBiomas is an international collaborative network that emerged in Brazil in July 2015 and is made up of civil society organizations, universities, laboratories, and technology companies that bring together expertise in remote sensing, geographic information systems, data science, and environmental information. We generate systematized, transparent, and open-access spatial information using semi-automated methodologies and time series that allow us to monitor territorial transformations with consistency and scientific rigor.
Globally, MapBiomas has consolidated itself as a platform that integrates national and regional initiatives under common principles, promoting data comparability and strengthening environmental monitoring on an international scale.
In Bolivia, MapBiomas has had several years of continuous work generating and updating geospatial information on the dynamics of the territory. To date, the network has consolidated various initiatives and thematic modules that broaden the understanding of changes in the national territory. Among these are the land cover and land use maps and data from 1985 to the year available in the current Collection, water surfaces and glaciers, as well as burned areas.

ABOUT THE MAPBIOMAS ALERTA INITIATIVE
The MapBiomas Alert initiative is a system for validating and refining deforestation alerts using high-resolution satellite imagery.
On the MapBiomas Alerta platform, we publish alerts derived from various detection systems. We validate, refine, and define a time window for each deforestation event, in addition to performing spatial cross-referencing with relevant territorial data (e.g., department, municipality, indigenous territory, protected area, ecoregion, etc.).
For every published alert, we provide a detailed report available for free, open access, and download. The MapBiomas Alerta initiative publishes data on all instances of forest cover loss and the loss of natural vegetation in other ecosystems, without assessing the legality, regulatory compliance, or liability regarding the removal of the vegetation.
OUR PURPOSE
Our goal at MapBiomas Alerta is to monitor and publicly report every instance of deforestation or loss of forest cover in Bolivia. We emphasize that MapBiomas Alerta is not merely another deforestation alert system; rather, it is an initiative designed to provide certainty and enhance the usability and effectiveness of alerts already generated by various existing systems.
The data produced are public and free of charge, and can be consulted on the platform:
